Roberto Cavalli Glamorous Party
No Comments
Paris, shortly after 9 p.m., at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, when some 1,200 guests began to file in for a dinner that was served on three buffet tables in a room roughly the size of a train station. Kylie, Naomi Campbell, Janet Jackson and Taylor Swift were among the guests. The tables were decorated with 15-foot topiaries, cypresses, boxwoods and vases filled with either hydrangea and pomegranates or silver-plated fronds and calla lilies. On the buffets, plates overflowed with grapes, strawberries, raspberries, prosciutto, Parmesan and pieces of raw fish wrapped in lettuce and peppercorns. Waiters passed trays of Champagne and plates of spinach ravioli, this was the glamorous party of Roberto Cavalli for the 40th anniversary of his company.
Cavalli, nick-named the Leopard King, started out in Florence, painting prints on sweaters and selling them to other designers. For years he worked in relative obscurity until about 1995, when, with women growing tired of the reigning minimalist look, his business suddenly took off. The Cavalli name became synonymous with clothes for a certain class of affluent partygoer who appreciates being noticed.
