Italian Confidence & Style
2 Comments
When Heidi Scrimgeour came out to Italy to write about our Fashion Shopping Tours we chatted A LOT about the differences between English and Italian women. So much so, we have considered publishing a book about the secrets of Italian style. But here just for you, our Selandari’s Secrets followers, are a few observations that we made:
1. Confidence. If you don’t have it – fake it, behind big designer shades if you need to, or wearing an item that makes you feel a million dollars (or euros, or pounds).
2. Sexy. Italian women don’t think there is anything wrong with looking sexy, even the women newsreaders show cleavage (in England this would be scandalous). But not TOO much. If you show cleavage, cover up legs, and vice versa. The look we want is elegant sexy.
3. Invest. Save for a really beautifully cut jacket or designer outfit. Your investment will pay you back many times over. If an Armani jacket is impossible to buy in the UK, come to Italy, combine a holiday and we’ll take you shopping where designer clothing costs much less from our special outlet stores.

4. Details. Spend an extra 10 minutes getting ready to really get your accessories right. Handbag, shoes, jewellery, scarves and sunglasses add instant glamour when they work well together.
5. Make-Up & Glamour. If you have a beautiful smile, take care of your teeth behind the smile, if your eyes are your best feature, use the best mascara. A lipstick can transform you in seconds, and of course hair is the crowning glory. Many Italian women have long hair, as they know how sexy it is.
Think of Italian screen goddess Sophia Loren, an inspiration of glamour, classy and sexy all rolled into one. When she turned 72 three years ago she posed semi-naked for a Pirelli Calendar alongside women half her age, and a vatican aide was moved to comment that if the Pope ever changed his stance on human cloning it would be because of Loren.
